Acetal is an easy-to-machine, general purpose engineering plastic that has excellent dimensional stability. It is rigid, strong and has a low coefficient of friction against metals, other acetals and plastics. Its superior creep resistance makes acetal a good choice when dimensional stability is needed. Delrin® is a trade name of a homopolymer acetal.
See the chart below for details of acetal’s material properties.
Acetal’s other benefits include low water absorption, good electrical properties, resistance to fatigue and organic solvents, and outstanding wear characteristics.
Several grades of Acetal are FDA-approved for use with foods.
- Strong, rigid and tough
- Excellent mechanical stability
- Excellent creep, moisture and fatigue resistance
- Low coefficient of friction
- Easily machined and fabricated
- Low water absorption
- FDA approved
